Claim Intro OfferLaguna Beach is a community of artists, designers, architects, and outdoor athletes — people who tend to approach their physical conditioning with the same intentionality they bring to their creative or professional work. For residents who have outgrown general fitness and want 1-on-1 coaching from a certified trainer with real credentials, The Atlas Gym is a 20-minute drive up Laguna Canyon Road and delivers something the village itself doesn't have.
The personal training team at Atlas is built around expertise, not sales. Trainers hold credentials from ISSA, kinesiology programs, and occupational therapy institutions. They work with Laguna Beach clients who have specific physical goals — weight loss with muscle preservation, recovery from injury, surfing performance, or competitive bodybuilding — and they build programs that are genuinely specific to those goals rather than reusing generic templates.
Laguna Beach's in-village fitness offerings are strong on yoga, Pilates, and wellness concepts — appropriate for mobility, mindfulness, and general health. The gap is in serious strength training and 1-on-1 coaching. Atlas covers weight loss, muscle gain, bodybuilding, strength training, nutrition counseling, and conditioning — delivered by certified coaches on professional-grade equipment rarely found at commercial gyms, in a private environment with a Recovery Room on-site.
Many Laguna Beach clients at Atlas are surfers or ocean athletes. The trainers understand how to build programs around surf season, swell windows, and the specific demands of paddling, popping up, and barrel riding. Building rotational strength, shoulder stability, and hip mobility through structured weight training translates directly to performance in the water.

"The trainers here actually care about your progress. Working with Max Pryor was a game-changer — he explains things in a way that makes sense, especially if you're getting back into training. I've learned more about form and recovery in a few sessions with him than in years on my own."

How far is personal training at Atlas from Laguna Beach?
About 20 minutes. Take Laguna Canyon Road (CA-133) north through the canyon to El Toro Road, turn left (west), then right on Del Lago Drive. The gym is at 23282 Del Lago Drive, Laguna Hills.
Why drive to Laguna Hills for personal training when there are trainers in Laguna Beach?
Laguna Beach has in-home trainers and studio trainers, but no private gym of Atlas's caliber. The Arsenal Strength equipment, the private training environment, and the advanced credentials of the Atlas team represent a different tier of coaching than what's available within the village. For clients who want specific, measurable results, the 20-minute drive is worth it.
Do Atlas trainers work with surfers?
Yes. Several Atlas trainers have specific experience programming for surf athletes — shoulder stability, rotational power, hip and ankle mobility, and ocean-specific conditioning. If you surf regularly and want your gym training to make you better in the water, they can build a program around your surf schedule.
What does the 3-session intro offer include?
Session 1 is a full movement assessment — no training, just evaluation and goal-setting. Sessions 2 and 3 are real training sessions based on what the assessment reveals. The total cost is $299. After three sessions, you'll know exactly what working with an Atlas trainer looks like and decide whether to continue.
